Now, I Know I Must Leave You Lyrics – Jakob Hallett

Now, I Know I Must Leave You Lyrics by Jakob Hallett

The bitter wind came to wash the autumn away
As winter drew close, it was here to stay
Her nights spent in the lounge
My mother adorning her dressing gown

I’d been outside, my girl left me
And i was feeling quite unhappy
I had no want to talk to my mother
Especially about the loss of my lover

But i somehow just seemed to forget
That mum would be sitting there with her cigarette
Slowly throwing her life and hopes away
And i was just about to do the same…

With such haste, i ran into the room
It angered hеr, my pride displumed
Past curfew, and my mothеr unimpressed
There was nothing i could do, or so i stressed

Then came more questions asked
Like those in the past
She desperately crying
As if i were lying…

“why are you so late?” she asked, prying
“mum, i was at work,” i lied while sighing
“if they’re keeping ye behind ye need to be paid,”
“it’s not right at all, you’ll soon ebrade!”

Mum, i’m leaving, i can’t stay no more
Something came up and i’ll soon be gone
Anne’s got into uni and i’m going with her
Despite how much she may try to spurn…

Her brow furrowed, her face full of doubt
Laughter like breaking glass omitted from her mouth
“if you leave me how will i cope
You’re my little baby, and my only hope.”

Her piercing fake laugh sounded through the room
As if i condemned her to her tomb
She looked at me with two bubbling eyes
When she knew my words weren’t just wishful lies…

Now, i know i must leave you
It might be right out of the blue
But it just so happens that my vices
Are to leave you to your own devices…
