The Glorious ones Lyrics – Stephen Flaherty & Lynn aherns

The Glorious ones Lyrics by Stephen Flaherty & Lynn aherns

Dear audience, let us take you now to our humble theater of the streets
Picture Venice in spring, feel the mist in the air
Picture Venice
There’s a crude little stage that’s been built in the square

In Venice
Actors call to the passersby
Scandalizing the nuns
And your spirits fly

As you hear the cry
We’re the glorious ones
Ciao, senori, e senorine
Welcome dear senori to our story

We’ll be playing all the parts
I am Flaminio Scala, our founder and lead actor
Slapstick and disaster from the master of the common works
In honor of all actors on earth and in Heaven

And their daughters and sons
Raucous comedy
Grand vulgarity
Tears and tragedy

All to do with me
And the glorious ones
At the age of sixteen, I found myself on the streets, living by my wits, looking for my life’s calling. and then, I found it
I saw misers and pretenders

Benders and buffoons
Ragged street performers dancing
wh#res with bosoms round as spoons
Musicians and their tunes

Overwhelming throngs of glorious humanity
Characters of every hue
And I knew
From that early age

I would make my mark upon the world
Improvise this comic world
I would put the world upon the stage
That’s insolence

Oratory
Unrequited love
Drama
In short, senori, the pride and the glory

Of my life
Hear our glorious tale of adversity and art
Be forewarned you may hear the occasional fart
With one hand on the crotch

And one hand on the heart
(?) banter
And pantomimes
Welcome!

Enjoy!
Ciao!
Come with me
See our show

Commedia
Flaminio Scala presents
The Glorious ones!
